Ask and you shall receive; it may just take fourteen years. Jeep showed a Gladiator concept at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and is finally releasing the truck in 2019. But this ride is worth the wait. With removal doors and roof, folding windshield (bring your goggles), and today’s connectivity, the Gladiator midsize pickup is a terrific combination of old-world charm paired with modern technology and safety systems the 2005 concept could only dream about.

The Gladiator is a well-behaved pickup truck on road, offering the driver and up to four friends solid, responsive steering, an excellent ride quality, and a surprisingly quiet cabin, even with the cloth roof. Off road, the Gladiator’s Rubicon RockTrac 4x4 system becomes the wild beast it once fought off, swashbuckling through forests and streams, conquering steep rock formations, and sloshing through mud measured in feet with absolutely elegant aplomb.

The Gladiator has a 5’ bed, 1,600 pound payload, and 7,650 pound trailer weight. The 60/40 split rear seat provides practical interior cargo utility, and Mopar has a plethora of accessories. With dozens of customizable configurations, there’s a Gladiator out there just for you. Go forth and multiply.
